Where is Lefour Dam?

Lefour Dam in Lefour Rural District, one of the scenic spots of Mazandaran Province, is in 10 km from Shirgah and 45 km from Babol city, and is also “Alborz Dam” and “Pashakla Dam”. Lefour Lake is one of the tourist attractions of Northern Savadkooh, which is located 254 km from Tehran and takes about 3.5 hours to reach this beautiful lake.

History of Alborz Lefour Dam

The first steps in the construction of Lefour Dam Shirgah date back to the late Pahlavi II era. Based on the surveys and studies that had been out, it was that the dam should be on the “Babol Rud” River in the Babol Kenar region. After the revolution, the construction of the Lefour Dam in Babol completely forgotten until in 1995, the government of “Mr. Hashemi Rafsanjani” as the then president ordered the construction of the dam in a different area from Babol Kenar in Lefour Rural District with the aim of providing water for farmers.

The first foundation stone for the construction of the Alborz Dam or the Lefour Dam of Babol was in Bahman 1374 by Mr. Rafsanjani in the Lefour Rural District, and 13 years later, in 1387, at the same time as the middle of Shaban, the Alborz earthen dam put into operation. The name of the Lefour Dam was initially Pashakala, but it was later to Alborz. The Alborz Savadkouh Dam, as you know, was in the heart of the Hyrcanian forests of the Lefour region with the aim of providing water to 54,000 hectares of agricultural land in the cities of Babol, Babolsar, Ghaemshahr, and Joibar. Natural structures and gravel were in the construction of this dam to reduce environmental pollution.

The historical monuments discovered in the Chashtkhoran Hill date back to the Iron Age. These ancient artifacts included ovens, kilns, stone and clay molds, metal smelting, and food storage, which were the most modern tools of their time. In addition, two cemeteries found in Chashtkhoran Hill, dating back to the early Islamic period. People buried their bodies in wooden coffins with metal ties and in brick graves.

From Tehran, enter Firouzkouh Road and after passing Veresk Bridge and Sefid Bridge, reach Shirgah. From Shirgah, drive west and enter Ganj Afroz Road and continue your way until you reach a side road leading to the dam.
